Hello, I’m Kirsten Gantenbein, a Senior Technical Writer at EMC Isilon.
The Isilon OneFS operating system can be configured to send you email alerts about general or
specific events such as the completion of a job or detection of disk errors.
In this video will show you how to set up an email notification rule in the OneFS web
administration interface to alert you when your cluster is reaching capacity.
Let’s start by looking at how to configure email settings in OneFS.
Log in to the OneFS web administration interface. Depending on the version of OneFS you’re
running, the web administration interface steps are slightly different.
In OneFS 7.0 and 7.1, go to Cluster Management > General Settings and then Email Settings.
In OneFS 6.5, click Cluster and go to Cluster Settings and then Email Settings.
The next steps will be performed in OneFS 7.1. Enter the SMTP information for your environment
in each field. Click Submit when you’re done.
Now it’s time to set up an email event notification rule.
This rule determines the type of alert you’ll receive by email. We’ll show you how to
create a rule that will use the capacity notification feature of EMC Isilon SmartPools software.
If SmartPools is not licensed on your cluster, you will receive an alert when your entire
cluster is reaching capacity. If SmartPools is licensed, you will receive an alert when
the individual node pools are reaching capacity. From the Dashboard, click on Events and click
on the Event Notification Rules tab. Click Add rule and enter a rule name and email.
In the Events section, you can select from different categories of events, and you can
select the severity of the event. Expand the System disk events list.
In the row containing the Smartpools capacity alert, select the checkboxes in the Warning
and Critical columns. Click Submit to save changes.
The Warning alert will notify you when the cluster reaches 88% capacity; the Critical
alert will notify you if the cluster reaches 95% capacity.
In the OneFS 6.5 web administration interface, click Status go to Events and then Notification
Rules. Expand System disk events and select the Warning and Critical checkboxes for the
SmartPool capacity alert. For a written description of this procedure
and more information about email alerts that you can set up for other types of events,
read the following knowledgebase article. For information about what to do when you
receive a cluster capacity alert, consult the following best practices guide.
If you need assistance with this procedure, contact EMC Isilon Technical Support.
Thanks for watching.
