Stars pay tribute to Emmy award-winning actress
DORIS Roberts, the Emmy-winning actress known for playing meddling mother Marie Barone on sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, passed away on Sunday aged 90.
Janet Daily, a spokeswomen for the family, confirmed that Doris died overnight in her sleep, and was told of the death by Doris' son, Michael Cannata.
Stars who worked with Doris have paid tribute to her on Twitter, and the shows producer, Phil Rosenthal,
said: "We loved our mom, the great #DorisRoberts. A wonderful, funny, indelible actress and friend."
Doris' Everybody Loves Raymond co-star, Patricia Heaton, shared a touching post, and captioned the image: "To my beloved Marie – RIP."
The image read: "Truly the end of an era. My wonderful TV mother-in-law and ELR nemesis Doris Roberts was a consummate professional from whom I learned so much.
"She was funny and tough and loved life, living it to the fullest. Nothing gave her greater joy than her three wonderful grandchildren, of whom she was so proud.
"It was truly was a privilege Doris. I love you and miss you."
The sitcom star Ray Romano, who played Doris' on-screen son, told Entertainment Tonight: "Doris Roberts had an energy and a spirit that amazed me. She never stopped.
"Whether working professionally or with her many charities, or just nurturing and mentoring a green young comic trying to make it as an actor,
she did everything with such a grand love for life and people and I will miss her dearly."
Brad Garrett, who played her other on-screen son Robert Barone, said: "I am deeply saddened by the passing of Doris Roberts, and amazing lady and brilliant actor.
"Doris was vibrant and full of life both on and off the stage, and I am so grateful we shared so many wonderful memories.
I will miss her greatly and will always remember her incredible kindness, humour, talent and heart."
The actress won 4 Emmy's for her role on the show, and received a total of 7 nominations for Best Supporting Actress in the 9 season sitcom.
