This episode of Tekzilla is brought to you by the 2012 Ford Mustang.
The gentle weeping you hear is Graham, one of our resident App Judgment mavens who picked
up an iPhone 4S on Friday. Actually, was it delivered to your house? It was, I didn't
wait in line for this one. And you really aren't weeping, you just looked really upset
when you handed me the phone. It's just the first time I've been away from it and I just
can't handle it. So, I'm going to say it sounds like the iPhone 4S for you lives up to the
hype. It does, I mean I was switching to Verizon so I knew I was going to get the new phone
that, what ever the next new thing was going to be but I’m honestly impressed with every
feature they talked about. It’s faster, the camera is amazing, video stabilization
is amazing, 1080p video, just impressed with everything so far. Well, I gotta say, is your
favorite feature, it is going to by the camera, or Siri? You know what, the camera is probably
the number one reason I would suggest anyone upgrade but Siri is just about amazing. It
blew me away, every single response, it has a very funny sense of humor, it’s got an
attitude which I think was a purposeful thing that Apple did and it’s great. Hold it right
there for one second, so if everybody familiar, I’ve got to say this simple demo, so this
is the camera application running on the iPhone 4S right now, and if you used to, well that’s
just horrible, see the inside of my hand. But, let’s get the back of the set there,
that’s a horrible picture but, you can now press the volume button, I’m used to the
volume button. Look at how fast… Roger Chang, the Blackberry holdout, the man, the myth,
the legend, the man who said he would never leave his beloved Blackberry was like; I’ve
got to buy one of these. The picture quality is fantastic. It is, it’s 8 megapixel camera
as apposed to the 5 megapixel one in the 4. When you do blow the pictures all the way
up comparing it to the 4 you are really only going to notice the little things, it is a
lot sharper but the grain is pretty much the same. So, is it because the 8 megapixel isn’t
that huge and the truth it is not about megapixel, it’s about image quality. So, you hold down
the button, hold down for Siri, so basically you guys had it open before so I got used
to that. Mexican food. I’ve found a number of Mexican restaurants currently close to
you. And look at that, the new spot comes up first, right next door. Call Tom, oops,
call Tom. Which Tom? Tom Lofthouse or Tomkin? How much does 2012 Ford Mustang cost? Sorry,
I don’t understand. You can search the web for that. How much does a 2012 Ford Mustang.
Which Tom, Tom Lofthouse or Tom… what it is doing there it is trying to follow the
conversation, because you didn’t cancel the call to Tom, it still thinks that is part
of the thing, so you do kind of have to cancel things if you are going to change the course
of the conversation. So, but, Siri is impressive and as most of you guys have probably seen,
people have been posting things online of the funny things that it says, and it has
some really witty responses for things. Like you can ask it the meaning of life, how much
wood could a woodchuck chuck, you could ask it what is wrong with me and it will give
you a quote from S&L, Steward Smallies’ daily affirmation. So, I really think Siri
is something currently though it is in Beta right now, is working really well and will
only get better. So, we talked about it being fast, it is kind of an interesting, some of
the stuff that is fast, some of the stuff with the dual core processor, I think one,
I think I heard you gushing for like 4 minutes this morning, in a 5 minute conversation about
the image stabilization. Absolutely, I’m a video guy. I shoot video, I edit video,
it is my full time gig here at revision3 and getting the iPhone I was excited about 1080p
video and the feature of video stabilization. It works really well, I shot a panoramic shot
of a canyon with one hand and just turned around 360 degrees and I went back to watch
that footage, not a single shake at all and it worked really, really well. I think it
actually does a little bit of post processing using the gyroscope as information to stabilize
your shot. The video stabilization is definitely one of the major reasons, if you shoot a lot
of video on the phone, I think it’s definitely a major reason to upgrade.
Do you feel like the reception has gotten better with the new antennae design? I did,
I switched from AT&T to Verizon so my reception has gotten a lot better but I’m not able
to compare it to my old AT&T phone, which I assume, I’ve heard claims that the AT&T
iPhone 4S is getting better reception than the iPhone 4 but I can’t personally say.
Chances are there are a lot of people who will be able to answer that question next
week.
What is your favorite app these days? My favorite app would have to be Instagram. Instagram
gets even more fun to use with the iPhone 4S because you get a little bit better camera,
better aperture size, sharper photos and the app just loads really, really fast because
you have the dual core 85 processor. So browsing around in Instagram is so much faster and
I’m enjoying it a lot more but yeah. What’s coming up on App Judgment?
On App Judgment, we’re going to be talking about the 4S a little bit more, this week
I assume it won’t be me because I will actually be leaving town, thank you so much, I have
it back. I have a reputation with phone breaking. So more from 4S, revision3.com/appjudgment
is the website. What is your next review coming up? I believe, usually we go on and talk about
the news so I just find out the latest news that is happening and so far it is this…
that is what we talk about. Thank you for sharing your iPhone with us.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have more Tekzilla coming up but before we do, let’s take a
moment to thank one of our sponsors.
It’s time to take a moment to thank one of our sponsors, the 2012 Ford Mustang. The
fine people at Ford have been kind enough to loan us a Mustang to drive around this
fall and we are stoked. Now, a couple days ago we told you about the 412 ponies under
the hood of this bad boy, 392 pounds of torque, the 2012 Ford Mustang is a powerful machine
so Ford also built in something pretty slick, selectable electronic power steering assist,
it’s called Epause. What’s it do? It detects how fast you’re going and automatically
adjusts the response and the steering to deliver precise steering at high speed and optimize
swinging around maneuverability when you are trying to squeeze your car into that tiny
little parking space somewhere in San Francisco. We are super excited to be working with Ford
and to have them as a sponsor this week. Thanks again to Ford and the 2012 Mustang for sponsoring
Tekzilla.
