Summer camps are coming, the School of Medicine Art Show is here, and UAB vision experts are
helping local partners see into the future. Welcome to the UAB Minute. It may only be
March, but it's already time to plan for summer camps. Visit uab.edu/summer to see what UAB
has to offer, from drumlines to drama workshops, materials science to creative writing. Over
at UAB's Edge of Chaos, the annual School of Medicine Art Show is in full swing. Students
and faculty submitted creations that include silver jewelry, painting, photos, and a quilt.
The show continues through May 15. Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness in
the U.S. and numbers are rising as the population ages. Early detection is crucial. That's why
UAB's internationally renowned glaucoma team is bringing its high-tech imaging devices
out into the community. The machines can spot signs of glaucoma years before symptoms begin.
Local optometrists can send those images to UAB experts for diagnosis, then collaborate
with the UAB specialists on treatment plans. Learn more about each story at uab.edu/reporter.
