You might have a feeling about a lot of these issues but you're sad at home
in your house by yourself you don't realize that your neighbor cares about
this
their neighbor and all the other people when you get together it helps
US
PLEASE DONATE
nature itself his defenseless and as environmental activists
it is important to be good citizens using our civil institutions
to protect and defend it. These are ways of knowing and being
who we are as a as Keepers of the land,
this requires participating in stakeholder meetings
testifying at government hearings
going on civic outings
attending public demonstrations (chant) BRAYTON POINT HAS GOT TO GO
(sung) No longer are we blind to the dangers of coal mines
Keep your eyes on the prize and hold on.
That coal fired plant Is fueled by the blood of my people
and it's fueled by your blood
Ninety seven-percent up peer-reviewed scientists state that human activity
is the cause of global warming and learning from educational presentations
to help ensure the BIOSPHERE- the part of the planet it makes it habitable
is protected ...future major storms combined with Sea Level rise
are a large problem. The RI CRMC is planning for a 3-5 foot rise by 2100
and a one and a half foot rise by 2050
as environmentalists it is also important to take time
to reflect on natures beauty
and understand the whole ECOLOGY so we really appreciate what we risk losing
by burning fossil fuels
and ravaging the nature.
music...
It astonishes me how much we have lost
its late March here this is our woodcock outing
but we came here first to Matunuck Beach to see some of the summer damage that was done this year
some of the coastal erosion that we have seen over the past few years
...a single storm can take a lot of the beach away
it's unbelievable there used to be dune upon dune and then beach
there used to be a used to be a whole other structure
NO! We need to say yes to science and technology
yes to our health and our future
yes to local economies being able to sustain
...(going on) cleanup's and events on campus really the impact that fossil fuels
and non-clean energy sources
have on our environment...going to school here has really shown me how,
being a part of the whole community, you have to be one of the people promoting sustainability and clean energy
yes
I want to bring up the Climate Solutions Act going forward again this year
to set BOLDER goals for the state renewable production
which I think is key for creating for creating the framework
for creating more solar
...and I will say I watched my colleagues in Masssachusetts
they refer back to their Climate Change Bill all the time. So you get a chair of the Public Utilities Commission
regulating energy and she will say we have to do this to meet
our Green House Gas Emission goals YES
Our clean energy future isn't just in the future it's happening right now (crowd screams)
There are facts about clean energy that they don't want to hear or that they don't want you to hear
the wind industry has grown- doubled in the
last four years
the solar industry has grown by a factor of five
we really appreciate the
Sierra Club members in Rhode Island and the National Organization
very proud to have them in action
(crowd cheers) (voice: Divestment has been a powerful tool in the past)
and will continue to be in the future
By supporting the Rhode Island Sierra Club
you become a part of the solution helping to build a verdant
sustainable and ecologically sound future
we're working to move beyond oil beyond gas
beyond coal beyond fossil fuels
until we get to a hundred percent clean energy future the
and so now now it's the time to close out the victory
you all legacy building thank you for doing now with
