Hi! I'm Jess Maguire from MissPhysio.com.au, and today we're going to be talking about
the five diet myths that are ruining your weight loss. But before we get started on
that today, if you'd like to find out how you can feature as one of the women you've
seen on Facebook in the before and after shots with your very own transformation, you can
click on the link below this video. Now, I talk to a lot of women each week when it comes
to losing weight, and there seems to be a few myths going around about what you should
do to lose weight. But I actually want to tell you why they're myths and why they're
ruining your weight loss today. Number one, the myth that you have to eat five small meals
per day to lose weight. Now, the myth of five small meals a day came about because apparently
it's meant to speed up your metabolism. That is a myth. Your metabolism does not drop unless
you've fasted for over 24 hours, so you can choose how you wish to eat your meals throughout
the day. You may prefer three large meals per day, or you may prefer five smaller meals
per day, but it won't actually affect your metabolism. Myth number two, eating clean
always leads to weight loss, and you can eat whatever you like as long as it's not processed.
This is not true. Nuts are a classic example of being a very calorie dense food. They're
so good for your health, but if you're overeating them, you're actually going to gain weight.
So you still need to regulate how much you're eating from all of the food groups, the carbohydrates,
the fats, proteins, dairy, fruit, and veg. Myth number three, using protein powders or
bars or shakes will always lead to weight loss. No, it won't. You can get sufficient
amounts of protein from your food. You don't need to bring in any supplements at all if
you want to lose weight. You can do it with the right nutrition advice and the right training
as well. Myth number four, you have to drastically cut your calories down to 1,200 calories per
day or less if you want to lose weight. No, you don't. In fact, you'll do better eating
more. Cutting calories right down to 1,200 calories per day can drop your metabolism.
It can lead to cravings, and it can also lead to binge eating. Eating a little bit more
means that you can have a lifestyle that you can maintain all year round, and include a
little bit of treats like your wine and your chocolate, and you're going to be able to
stick with it for much longer. Myth number five, you have to eat perfectly all of the
time if you want to lose weight. No, you don't. In fact, having a little bit of leeway is
going to help you, again, stick to this healthy way of eating, and if you have doable strategies
in place that's going to help you burn your treats off. You're going to have a lifestyle
that you can stick to all year round. This reduces the stress involved with dieting and
also the on again off again eating. So there you have it, the five dieting myths that are
ruining your weight loss. Thank you so much for watching my video today. If you enjoyed
