Hello and welcome to OCCAT Videos. Today I want to share with you two, just two, tips
on how to get the most out of Twitter.
They are really simple Tips, or Twips. Everything on Twitter starts with "TW", so we'll call
them Tips.
The first Tip is - BE PRESENT.
I can't stress enough how important it is that if you have a Twitter account - USE IT!!
If you don't, it's as much use as having a blank advert in your local newspaper. So if
you sign up for Twitter, make sure that you are committed and dedicated to using it. And
when I say use it, I mean use it often.
I often get asked to carry out social media consultations and when asking if people use
Twitter they will say YES but on looking at their profile they've maybe tweeted 3 times
in the last six months - that is NOT using TWITTER - that is just having a Twitter account.
And it's certainly not using Twitter to the best of its abilities.
I recommend posting at least ten times a day on Twitter if not more. It doesn't have to
be banal. It doesn't have to be (and shouldn't be) pictures of your dinner. It has to follow
the three "Golden Rules"of any social media post, in that it should be informative, valuable
or entertaining. And as long as it hits one of those three notes then you are fine.
You can use programmes to schedule posts, especially during the night. Remember Twitter
is a global phenomenon and not everybody is on Twitter at the same time so you cannot
reach everybody at once. You can repeat your message until you're sick of seeing it because
chances are your followers aren't seeing it every time as they aren't on Twitter ALL the
time just as you aren't.
Don't be afraid to repeat yourself but DO be afraid of falling into the abyss of not
posting. You most post and you must post regularly.
You can post links to your website and business, links to other websites, pictures etc. Make
sure people kknow you exist. If someone comes across your profile and you've not posted
for months they may think you've gone out of business and that's NOT good.
SO BE PRESENT ON TWITTER
The second tip is BE YOU on Twitter.
Never pretend to be something you're not. Fake it til you make it with confidence and
success but NEVER personality.
If people decide to work with you and your actual persona is different to that online
it will question your honesty and their trust in you. Ultimately they will take their business
elsewhere.
Let your personality shine through. Tell jokes (not lewd, racist or sexist), share pictures
you like. Mix professional and personal if that's how you like to do business.
Inject a LOT of personality into your postings.
People want and need to get to know you and not just your business.
To recap:
BE PRESENT BE YOU
