Hi, Christi Ferretti here with Expert Village. Today I want to give you some helpful hints
on picking an avocado that's going to work perfectly for whatever dish you are making
at home. What I have here for you to look at are avocados in every stage of ripeness.
Now this is actually a fruit, grown mostly in this country in California. Its going to
travel really well, so you should have a good chance at picking the perfect avocado for
whatever you are making. If you look here, this particular avocado is pretty bright green.
And bear with me here for a second, but its also very hard. This avocado really isn't
good for much. As we progress down, this avocado is really good for a guacamole. It?s ripe.
Its ready to eat. Still going to be a little firm. And when you push on it, you should
get just a little give. Now you don't want to go through every avocado sticking your
finger in it and making holes. But you do want to go through and gently press it. Make
sure you get a little bit of spring. And this particular grocery store where I purchased
this, was really nice to put the ripe sticker on it. So that gives you a little bit better
of a chance. Just be sure they are taking these off before they get down to this stage.
This particular one is if you can see here, pretty dry, kind of shriveled at the tip.
Its also very dark. Almost trying to turn purple. And when I push on it you can see
the indentation goes pretty strait in. Not good for much. This one is perfect. You can
tell by the nice color throughout. And when you open it up, you can see that other than
this one little spot, you've got a really nice even color, firm flesh avocado. Perfect
for making a guacamole, slicing over a salad, putting over a chicken breast. If you're me,
a little salt, pepper and some olive oil and you're good to go.
