Hi. I'm Brenda Thompson, registered dietitian and owner of Life Skills Nutrition. In this
segment, I'm going to talk about vitamin C. You will find vitamin C on the food label
here in this area of the food label. Vitamin C is on the food label because it is important
for us to know that our children are getting these nutrients during the growth and development
stages. Vitamin C is important. It aids in iron absorption. It assists in making cartilage,
connective tissue, ligaments, tissues, skin and nerve transmitting substances. It is also
available in carnotene which is an energy producing substance in our cells. So, sometimes
if you have low energy, vitamin C may be a little helpful in boosting that energy. Also,
vitamin C helps boost the immune system and it reduces the risk of heart disease, anemia
and some cancers. You can find vitamin C in oranges, green sweet peppers, sweet peas,
green onion, swiss chard and tangerines and also tomatoes. So if you are looking to increase
your vitamin C, those are some food options.
