The other pressure sensitive operation the Falcon is able to perform is Overlaminating.
The Falcon Laminator allows you to overlaminate either boards or prints. To overlaminate a
mounted print on a board, first set the height of the laminating rolls as previously demonstrated
with pressure-sensitive mounting. Load the laminating film on the top unwind position.
Remember to carefully position the film so when it's pulled towards the roll, the adhesive
will face the front of the machine. Next, install the rewind shaft with the cardboard
core facing the front rewind of the machine. Pull the film down around the idler and over
the front of the top roll. Separate the release liner from the film. Pull the liner evenly
and tightly up the rewind core. Tape the liner to the core. Pull the film down firmly and
drape it about 3 to 4 inches over the table. Use a leader board to start the film as previously
demonstrated with Pressure-Sensitive Mounting. Run the boards through the Falcon in the same
manner that they were mounted. Your boards are now overlaminated.
When it comes to overlaminating prints, the Falcon Laminator is able to apply both the
mount and laminate film at the same time. Before proceeding, first remove the front
table. Then web up the mount film on the bottom unwind like so. It's extremely important to
match the position of the mount film with the top laminate film. With the top roll raised,
pull the mount film up through the nip area and tape it to the fan box on the back side
of the machine. Next, web the laminate as previously demonstrated,
except this time pull the film down evenly and press it into the mount film on the bottom
roll. Install the rewind core. Remove the release liner and tape it to the rewind. Put
the front table back into position. Using the hand crank, lower the top roll until it
comes into contact with the bottom roll. Turn the crank an additional 1/3 rotation.
Set the Falcon in Forward at a speed of about 1/4. Move to the back and start the machine
in Auto. Pull the films out the back of the machine. You may lower the secondary drive
rolls if desired. These rolls provide extra pull to the film. If one of the films is exposed
by more than 1/8 of an inch, you should not use the secondary drive rolls as the film
adhesive may adhere, causing the film and prints to wrap around the rolls.
Once you're sure the films are coming out the back of the machine, go back around to
the front and set the film tension. The film tension is adjusted by the *** on the brake.
You should apply only the minimum amount of tension needed to straighten out wrinkles
in the film that come farther than 1/2 way around the roll. Tension is increased by turning
the *** clockwise and decreased by turning the *** counterclockwise.
Send the prints through and trim the print. To complete the process, mount the image.
