The former light-welterweight champion is in Las Vegas for the clash and said: “If McGregor wins, boxing is over. It’s a disaster, big time.
I can’t see him winning though. “If Mayweather wins the boxing goes on a high, if McGregor wins then people will follow MMA.”.
Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor LIVE: Updates from Las Vegas 3.50am: Badou Jack stops Nathan Cleverly in round five to win the WBA light-heavyweight championship. Read Chris McKennas full report on the fight.
3.36am: BADOU JACK DEFEATS NATHAN CLEVERLY 3.34am: Chris McKenna at the T-Mobile Arena: Badou Jack is a seriously underrated fighter and he enjoys going to war with the Brits. He is taking Cleverly apart here.
3.31am: Chris McKenna at the T-Mobile Arena: Cleverly is going to have to change tactics here and quick. He’s just taking too many shots as he keeps pressing forward.
He’s heading for a wide points loss unless he does something different. 3.25am: Chris McKenna at the T-Mobile Arena: The second round followed in a similar fashion to the first just without Cleverly landing at end.
Finally some noise in the arena as Conor McGregor flashed up on the big screen strutting into the arena with his partner Dee Devlin pushing a pram with their son, Conor Jr, in it.
3:22am: Chris McKenna at the T-Mobile Arena: Cleverly started slowly and looked sluggish for most of that opening round.
He was caught early with a body shot and countered continuously but he responded by landing the best punch of the round just before the bell.
3.10am: Chris McKenna at the T-Mobile Arena: Speaking of money, Nathan Cleverly is getting just £74,000 for this but his pay cheque will be bumped up by UK TV and promoter Eddie Hearn.
3:00am: Wales Nathan Cleverly will defend his WBA light-heavyweight title against Badou Jack shortly. This one promises to be a real barn burner.
Fans are yet to flock in for the Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather fight. 2.50am: Chris McKenna at the T-Mobile Arena: Floyd Mayweather has arrived at the T-Mobile Arena.
Edging closer to the main event but this clash between Steve Cunningham and Andrew Tabiti is not exactly getting the few hundred fans already in here going. 2.38am: Chris McKenna at the T-Mobile Arena: Get the kettle on.
Looks like could be closer to 5am UK time before main event gets underway. 2.34am: Chris McKenna at the T-Mobile Arena: This one has been all about money and boy will these two earn some amount.
The guaranteed purses for both were released last night and Mayweather will earn £77.4m minimum while McGregor gets £23m.
But those numbers will be dramatically increased when they get their cut from the pay-per-view pie which is expected to bring in more than £350m.
2.25am: Chris McKenna at the T-Mobile Arena: Everyone’s had their say on who is going to win and how. Here is how I see this going.
Floyd Mayweather could start like he did against Manny Pacquiao and that was standing in the middle of the ring waiting for his opponent to come at him.
There he would be able to land right hands to warn Conor McGregor that there is some pop in those old and so-called brittle hands.
Then he may go on the back foot and work out what is expected to an unorthodox approach from the Irishman.
But the class difference should be vast and I expect Mayweather to land with ease before forcing a stoppage between rounds four and six. 1:55am: Back to the undercard action, and Yordenis Ugas defeats Thomas Dulorme via unanimous decision (94-91, 93-92, 93-92) 1:50am: If you’re in the upper levels at the T-Mobile Arena – which still would have cost you over £1,000 – then you can rent binoculars to get a better view.
Money well spent? 1:45am: British boxer Savannah Marshall on her win over Sydney LeBlanc earlier tonight: “I felt brilliant. Im really glad it was three-minute rounds because I prefer that over two-minute rounds.
“She was really tough like I knew she would be. Im glad that I got out of there with a win against a top class opponent.
“Ive been looking forward to this all week so Im really excited about my performance. The build-up this week has been great.
“I knew it would be hard to stop her so I made sure to box her. I was able to execute my game plan. Im happy with how I performed.”.
Kevin Newman and Antonio Hernandez throw down.
Savannah Marshall lands a straight left on Sydney LeBlanc. 1:35am: Chris McKenna at the T-Mobile Arena: This is it. The talking is over and the money is made.
Now we will find out what happens when a future hall of fame fighter takes on a debutant in the ring. Las Vegas is buzzing.
The city was bouncing last night as the thousands of Irish fans who have descended on the Strip partied until the early hours. Judging by the scenes around Sin City today some of them haven’t slept.
Fans are milling around outside the arena with the undercard underway inside it. The T-Mobile Arena is calm for now but it will be chaos in a couple of hours. 00:55am: The next result is in, Juan Heraldez def.
Jose Miguel Borrengo via unanimous decision (96-93, 97-92, 97-92).
Conor McGregor takes place at the T-Mobile Arena.
Thomas Dulorme lands a big left hand on Yordenis Ugas. 11:50pm: Antonio Hernandez def. Kevin Newman via unanimous decision (57-56, 59-54, 59-45). 11:20pm: First up on the undercard is Hartlepool-born Savannah Marshall. She wins her professional debut against Amy Coleman via unanimous decision.
