Welcome to this weeks Varminators. We're here tonight. They just cut this field of wheat,
I think it is, behind us. Anyway, it is full of Canadian Geese, so we're here at last light,
waiting for them to feed. As soon as they get off, us, us are going to hopefully get
underneath them, see if we can knock some down just as they fly off. So it will be a
bit fast and furious when it does kick off but we're hoping that it's going to be a bit
of fun, we're very excited. Just gonna go have a look over the hedge and see if they're
in the field.
There's loads of geese, all feeding on the field next to the guys and everyone's eager
to get stuck in, especially Chunk.
These guys have been watching this field now for three days. So they reckon that they know
exactly where they're going to come off as soon as it goes dark. So, I'm trusting them.
We're lining out down this hedgerow by the looks of it. Wouldn't want to get left behind,
let's push on.
As Wildy gets into position some geese are already in the air.
Some more coming in.
They're gonna let them go. They should come right over the top of us.
Unfortunately they don't come in.
They enter the field further down the pathway.
The guys keep moving and Chunk plants them into positions across the hedgerow. Each man
spread across the field should be able to cover plenty of ground if all four hundred
take off together.
See one come from behind us. Should be quite exciting if we got it right.
The guys wait.
Wait.
And wait some more as the light begins to fade.
Now although the geese can be heard, the skies remain clear. So Chunk formulates a plan.
Because they're flying in down there, they're just going to move the guys down the line
a bit and everything else, but can you imagine how many geese that you can obviously hear
and the few that you have seen. There's more that have joined them, and they're grazing
the corn, grazing the grass, grazing anything really, the damage that they'll do. This must
be 500, 600 geese on there now. All hungry, filling their bellies before they got to rest
back on the bonce. It would be absolutely devastating to think that they were in your
corn or whatever. So I think that we'll get a few less in a minute or two.
Chunk's back again, and getting increasingly more excited.
They're getting restless.
This is the flight line here, isn't it? Just this corner
Hey?
This corner, isn't it
Yeah looks like it.
He's organizing his troops once again and repositioning the boys. Wildy is getting a
little bit eager too.
I don't think. Hopefully.
The skies are still empty for now.
Sounds like it.
The geese are honking up. They're making a bit of a noise now.
Yep they're up, which way are they gonna go?
They're all going out the top end, move down.
It would appear that Chunks master plan has fallen flat on its face. Wildy hasn't had
a shot. The boys make a move down the field to get into position in the first corner they passed.
There's geese in the skies and Big Steve is the first one on the scene.
Chunk fires off a series of shots and two geese drop from the sky.
Eveyone's claiming to hit at least one.
I've got one.
But it's not quite the roaring success they had hoped for.
Go on Steve!
As they regroup and get their breath back, they recount the action.
Sod's law, in the wrong place.
As soon as I heard them I ran down here. How come you didn't run down here?
There'll be no more on now will there?
It was the wrong place.
How many did you get, two?
Yeah I shot two.
I dropped three.
Never mind. As I said, it'd be fast and furious, unfortunately we're just in the wrong place.
Fifty yards too far down. Well you could see there was a lot of geese on there.
A hell of a lot.
Yeah there must've been a lot. The first lot that went off there were loads, wasn't there
Steve. I'd have said there's five hundred on there. We were just in the wrong place.
We'll know for next time, you'll want to be up here, they come in that end and come out
at this.
Crop damage is unbelievable isn't it.
Yeah crop damage is terrible. It is.
Anyway, best have a scout around and see I we can pick these birds up. There's one there.
How many did you get Steve?
He got three.
Think I got two.
I got two aye.
And I got the camera on!
Fast and furious it was.
But, it was all over so quickly. For a minute or two, the skies looked like the battle of
Britain. But when it's all over and the boys are out of breath, they're straight back to
being battle of the bulge. As the light fades and the boys have a pick up, there's only
a few geese recovered, but it wasn't a total failure.
Even though we weren't in the right place, my god, it was exciting. We all rushed out
there. Steve, Big Steve, he shot three didn't you, mate?
Yeah.
I knocked two down, Chunk knocked two down. We picked a few, but it's gone dark and it's
gone wet, and we're on a steep bank there. Well, Chunk says he'll leave them until morning,
he's gonna come with the dog first thing and he's gonna have a scout down. A couple of
them went backwards into the maze. Well, you're never going to find them without a dog anyway,
really. So we've knocked it on the head for the night, but thanks to Chunk and Steve for
putting us on it. We've had a right exciting time. It's been brilliant. But you can see
how many there was, you can see what kind of damage they've been doing. So, you've gotta
keep on top of these things. Anyway, I'm getting soaked so, thanks mate. Brilliant, thanks
buddy. There we go, I'm out of here.
Another mildly successful night for Team Wild Varminators, and so it's off to the pub.
