Ambassador Brewster: Hola, mi nombre es Wally Brewster.
I am honored and privileged that President Obama
asked me to represent the United States
as ambassador to the Dominican Republic.
My spouse Bob and I
have traveled the world
from the far reaches of Asia
to the stunning coastlines of southern Europe,
Bob Satawake: but we always return to the beauty
of the Dominican Republic.
Ambassador Brewster: Over the past 30 years,
I've built retail communities and cities
across the U.S. and Latin America.
I see many opportunities
for the United States and the Dominican Republic
to increase trade and economic opportunity,
improve rule of law,
and increase academic and cultural exchanges.
We are great fans of baseball.
We have followed our Dominican and Dominican-American friends
throughout their baseball careers
including our close friends Moises and Austria Alou.
One of our favorite baseball moments
was watching the New York Yankees and the Mets
play their final game in the old Yankees Stadium.
Whether rooting for our hometown team,
the Chicago Cubs, or Escogido,
I must confess, nothing was more exciting
than watching the Dominican team
win the world baseball classic!
Growing up in a modest household
in a small town in East Texas,
I understand the challenges and
struggles of families who work day to day
just to provide their children with a better life.
My parents taught me
that all people deserve respect,
dignity, love, and opportunity.
They also instilled in me
a strong belief in God
and the values of love and tolerance.
Bob and I bring those beliefs and values
with us as we come to the Dominican Republic.
We are both thrilled to be coming back
to our second home in the Dominican Republic,
where I'm honored to serve as the United States ambassador.
We have lots of hard work ahead
as the opportunities are tremendous.
Together, we look forward to
the partnerships, successes and friendships yet to come.
Esperamos verlas pronto.
