In cultural news, today is Singapore’s National Day, celebrating its independence gained in
1965. In Southeastern Asia between Malaysia and Indonesia, Singapore is comprised of one
main island and 60 islets. It is a land graced by many faiths including Buddhism, Christianity,
Hinduism, Islam, and Taoism. The nation’s rich diversity is also reflected in its four
official languages: English, Mandarin Chinese, Malay, and Tamil. Moreover, Singapore is home
to the Bukit Timah and Central Catchment Nature Reserves, which are habitat for over 840 flowering
plants and 500 species of animals.
We wish the harmonious citizens of Singapore a joyous National Day.
