Brazilians,
Brazil is living through moments
that will be decisive for our future.
Coming Sunday
we have the opportunity to reaffirm
another time our historic commitment
for democracy
for freedom and the rule of law.
What the vote about the impeachment puts at risk
is not just my mandate
which I intend to defend
and honor to the last day
as constitution commands.
What is at risk
is the respect for the sovereign will of the Brazilian people,
respect for the votes.
What is at risk are the social achievements
and the rights of the Brazilians.
Therefore it is my duty to clarify the facts
and to name the risks
that this adventure of a coup creates for our country.
Since I was elected
a part of the opposition didn’t come to terms with it
demanded another counting of the votes
tried to annul the elections
and then started to conspire for an impeachment.
Those who lost the elections drown the country
in a state of permanent political instability,
that prevents economical recovery,
with one single goal - to take by force
which they didn’t succeed to get through the urns.
There is no reason for a motion
of an impeachment against me.
They accuse me without any legal ground.
I didn’t commit any offense in office.
I am not sued for corruption
or abuse of public means.
I never impeded investigations
no matter who was their object.
My name cant be found on any bribery list.
I am not suspected of any crime
against public welfare.
If you analyze the accusations against me
that are made in Congress, they are just a fraud.
The biggest juridical and political fraud
in the history of our country.
Without this fraud there could be no vote about an impeachment.
Brazil and democracy
don’t deserve such a farce.
I ask all Brazilians
not to be deceived by this.
Look, who leads this process,
and what they suggest for Brazil’s future.
The leaders of the coup already said, that
in case they succeed in usurping power,
it will be necessary
to demand sacrifices from the Brazilian population.
With which legitimacy?
They want to abolish rights and cut social programs
like family subsidies and My House, My Life.
They menace even public education.
They want to hand over national sovereignty
change the division of goods
and deliver the receipts from deep-salt-oil
to foreign multinationals.
What motivated the instigators of the coup
first of all are our successes.
By all means they want to tear down
what I stand for:
the project of development and social inclusion
which we worked for daily
throughout the last 13 years.
To reach their goals
they are willing to *** democracy
and tear constitution apart,
sow intolerance, hatred
and violence between us.
They are ready to humiliate Brazil
in front of the international community
as if it were some tiny republic
and not one of the world’s largest democracies.
Brazilians,
I turn towards you to ask you to continue
defending democratic legitimacy.
To stay mobilized, at the workplace,
in the schools, in the streets and in social networks.
It doesn’t matter, whether you agree with government or not,
it’s necessary to fight against a coup,
a breach of the constitution
which could force Brazil
into a painful process
of instability and insecurity
No government is legitimate
that wasn’t created through the people’s vote,
free, direct, universal and secret.
Without this vote by the people
any government is just a tyranny.
The tyranny of the strongest, the wittiest,
the most rich and the most corrupt.
I send a warning to all those
that see the process of impeachment
as a shortcut to power.
You might be able to justify that for yourselves,
but never
you can look into the eyes of the nation
because the word 'coup' will stay written
for all times upon the foreheads of the traitors of democracy.
I also want to greet those and thank them,
those millions of Brazilians
who went out during the last weeks
to manifestations in defense
of democracy
freedom and the rule of law.
This is an ample and enormous mobilization,
because it roots in the most diverse parts of society.
even from those that didn’t give me their vote
who criticize my government
but never loose the faith in Brazil.
History will record the voices of those
who didn’t stay spectators in this serious moment.
Brazilians,
our country has all requirements to get out of this crisis.
To regain economic growth,
employment, stability, a division of wealth,
and opportunities for everyone.
We need to find back together
to the necessary peace
to resume the course of change.
But only respect for the democratic order
can guarantee a reunification of the nation.
We, citizens of Brazil,
unknown people and famous ones,
workers in the cities and on the countryside,
businessmen, intellectuals and delegates,
political and social leaders,
citizens of all professions and age groups,
men and women of all races and creeds,
we all, citizens of our country
are the guardians of those values
that made Brazil this great nation.
Therefore I am sure
that Brazilian democracy will be victorious.
Viva Brazil!
Viva Democracy!
