Vitamin D deficiency is prevalent among all age groups.
There are many factors which could increase the risk of Vitamin D deficiency such as low
HDL cholesterol, dark skin, low consumption of dairy products and obesity.
One of the main reason for vitamin D deficiency is lack of exposure to sun as most of the
people usually work indoors and wear sunscreen cream regularly.
Some of the signs and symptoms that may indicate that you are having vitamin D deficiency are:
1.
You are having frequent bone breaks or fractures.
2.
Getting frequent colds, flu and respiratory tract infections.
3.
There is an inadequate bone growth in children.
4.
General lethargy, tiredness, aches and pains.
5.
You are suffering from muscle weakness and aches.
Some of the things which you can do to increase the intake of Vitamin D in your body are:
1.
Increase the intake of food items such as fatty fish like salmon, sardines, or tuna,
egg yolk, liver, cod liver oil, dairy products and cereals.
2.
Take the recommended daily intake of Vitamin D. It is 400 IU for infants, 600 IU for children
and adults and 800 IU for elderly (over 70) and pregnant or lactating women.
In conclusion, either increase the exposure to sun or take the recommended daily intake
