Tom Krieglstein:
How many students
walk onto your campus
every single day,
and no one says, “Hello,” to them?
No one says, “Hi,” to them.
Their email address is some number
attached to ---gpc.edu. Right?
(audience murmuring - “yeah”)
Think about that for a moment.
We have an amazing opportunity
as student leaders to change
the entire dynamic
of every single campus here,
to make it a dance floor.
So when someone walks in,
they look around
they see all these faces they know,
and these relationships they built up.
And when the DJ - you all -
put on whatever song you want,
whatever activity you want,
they are going to be like
“I love that song!”
Not because the song was great,
because, of course,
you put on great activities,
but because
the relationships were there.
That's an amazing opportunity we have.
If your campus looks like this,
If your organization looks like this
where each one of these dots
represents an activity,
Where you are asking people
to show up at that event.
And what you want to do
is to fill up the rest of the space
with Wonder Events.
So we are going around and
doing all sorts of Wonder Events
so that we can increase
the average level of engagement.
So that when we do
hand out a flier to someone
they will be like, ''Oh yeah, totally!”
“I'll come to that event”.
But unless we do that,
if we don't do these in between
and then we host an event
where we ask people to show up,
they are not going to show up.
They are not going to show up
because they are all neutral.
They're not going to care.
It's like going up to a person
you never met .
and the answer is negative.
