What was the pleasure of returning to a character you hadn't played since 1989? The pleasure of playing this character is his wit and his intelligence and the situations the filmmakers put him in, and watching him work his way out of those situations. The virtue of having an antagonist played by an actor as powerful as Cate [Blanchett] is, is that the only measure of Indiana Jones is what he comes up against. So the villains really provide the opportunity for him to exceed expectation. Spielberg calls you 'the hardest working actor' around. What do you think of him? I can only say that as brilliant a director as he was twenty years ago, he's even better now. I don't know how that's possible. It's a very special relationship I have with Steven. I have enormous trust in him and I take real joy in being able to watch him work. He's the hardest working man in show-business, now that we've lost James Brown! Are you worried about critical response to playing an action hero when you're 65? I'm not afraid at all. I expect to have the whip turned on me. It's not unusual for something that is popular to be disdained by some people. I fully expect it. I'm not really worried about it. I work for the people who pay to get in. They're my customers. My focus is on providing the best experience I can for those people. In this case, this film is such a celebration of the movies, I feel inured from professional criticism and I know we made this movie to reacquaint people with the pure joy that can happen in a dark room with a bunch of other people seeing something you haven't seen before that can kick your butt.
