And get some hot tips from the fly fishing expert.
Don't miss Möller Bil's big day for angling.
Everything from flies to antispin.
Hi, I'm Niklaus Bauer from Fly-Dressing.
You're watching FLY TV and today, we're doing this...
Welcome to the north part of Sweden. I'm Niklaus Bauer from Fly-Dressing.
And for the next few minutes you're gonna watch pike fly fishing.
This is a good friend of mine from up here: Micke Nilsson.
He's a pike guy and he likes this ***, as I do.
It's in the end of May, it's a little bit slower than normal.
The spring is a bit later than last year.
What do you think? Has the fish spawned or?
I think we can see some fish that are in the middle of the spawning-
-and I think we can fish, find some fish that hasn't spawned.
We can probably find some fish that has spawned as well.
But I still think they're up in the shallow waters.
It's quite cold in the water, probably 8-9 degrees Celsius.
They are looking for water that is a little bit warmer.
In this shallow bay, we're gonna fish today.
Really good weather as well.
Getting us cloud covered now too.
I think we're gonna find some big fish. They usually catch-
-quite a lot of big fish down here, some huge pikes.
-Some 20 pounders? -Yeah, I hope so.
-And good metre fish? -Some good metre fish.
We also have our good friend here: Patrik.
He's more camera shy and he prefers to fish.
So, he's checking out the waters for us at the moment.
Patrik, any luck?
No.
No. Okay. We'll see about that.
Let'*** it.
These are the... This one has worked pretty well.
With these rubber legs on it. You get a good color band to it.
And it also gets a bit heavier weight on it.
I don't know if they move so well as they do on the salmon pattern.
It works.
It looks great. And a big sheephead on them.
A lot of it's ostrich hurls.
It works good that color. - Nice one.
These orange and gold are working quite good.
The water is a bit darker here too.
It's brownish.
We're just moving the boat a little bit out of position.
So we can wade fish down here, and we have caught some big fish here before.
Let's get a big one!
I'm putting a silver fly on now, it might be a tip.
You got a yellow one?
Yeah, bright yellow. Very slow falls on the fly.
It's gonna eat you. - It's a small one.
I can tell it's small.
Huge!
But it has spawned. Definitely.
Yeah, this has spawned.
That's a fighter.
He had a tough spawning time.
That's a good one!
That was a good one.
It was a good take.
Good fish.
I took the silver fly with rubber legs.
Silver fly with rubber legs. That's the trick!
They are slow today, but they're there.
It's like walking a dog.
Good fish. Good fish. Good fish.
We've been fishing for awhile, we haven't had any movements for awhile.
We'll try this new spot, very shallow spot.
We've been working for awhile now, without any luck.
We've had some small fish chasing the flies, but-
-we haven't had any luck with hooking and setting the hooks.
So, we'll try this shallow bay here.
Really hammered the fly there.
It's a good looking fish.
I like the fins on the pikes. This tail, it's quite wide.
I like the shape of them.
We changed location. We took the boat up and moved it-
-half an hour drive.
We came to a new spot, where the water is much more clear.
And the fish has probably spawned much more.
I think this is the third cast.
I hooked a really big fish actually.
You'll manage that one yourself, but do you want help?
I actually could get some help, it's not that small.
The fly just landed and then I stripped it three or four times-
-it just took it straight away.
We're going to net it now, it's actually a carp sack.
It's really convenient for small boats.
I'm trying to get it in as hard as possible.
But it's a tough fish.
Raise it. Pick it up.
It's a fast one. It's a nice fish.
No rush.
On this side, Micke?
It's short, but fat.
It's a really strong fish.
Get up there. Oh sorry!
What side do you want it on? - It doesn't matter.
It's a fat one.
It's a good fight.
This is the reason why you fly fish for pike.
That's a nice fish.
It's on the stinger hook too?
This is a strong fish. Actually, I thought it was much bigger than it is-
-when it hooked, because it just went sideways.
When the big fish take the fly, they usually go sideways.
You don't have any movement whatsoever.
Did you get it up? Lift it in.
Stuck in the net.
Good one. - Thanks.
Thanks. Nice save.
Good work.
That's what we came for.
Let's go and get another one.
Yeah, a big one for you now.
Silver again. - My big daddy.
Your big daddy.
We've been fishing floating lines today.
The water is not low, but we've been fishing in shallow water.
The water is maximum metre deep.
We're getting the fish to strike really close to the surface.
The water has a lot of colour, and there's a lot of dirt in it.
We've been fishing a lot of Flashabou patterns and different colours.
Silver, gold and green.
We've been fishing quite slow.
Long stops, but they also have been striking more when fishing really fast.
No real key today.
I think it's more about just finding the spot.
More head onto the fish.
And also finding the fish that really wants to strike.
Because we've been spooking a lot of fish.
But we have found fish that has spawned.
And we haven't seen any fish spawning at all.
Nothing like that.
They really hammer the flies when they take it.
Let's see if we can get a big one out tonight here.
The light is coming down a little bit now.
It looks good.
I just lost one so...
Another thing you can say is when the clouds disappeared-
-and the sun came fram
He has the greatest whirl!
Did you put the hook in it?
That's fun.
Did you feel the hook or?
I don't know if it felt the hook, but it felt the fly.
I'm just gonna...
I want that one too.
What I was supposed to say when the fish just took my fly, is that-
-when the clouds disappeared and the sun came out... There it is.
That's a good fish!
I think it's a pretty good fish.
What I wanted to say is that the fish likes the sun. Now we can fish.
What we have seen is when clouds disappear and the sun comes out-
-is that the fish get more active and want the flies more.
And also the temperature got up a few degrees in the water.
We're up at 12 degrees Celsius now.
It looks much better now.
The fish has been standing there. We can see them.
These puffs here are all over the place.
You see the puffs here? All over the place.
I have a big one. Oh, look at this one!
That's a nice fish!
That's a big fish!
That was a monster!
That was a huge fish.
This took you from behind.
The fish is starting to feed a lot. We can see no fish spawning whatsoever.
They're really starting to feed. It looks like we only have big-
-fish in this cold. There are no small ones whatsoever.
We might have contact with a big fish here.
Micke has a good possibility now, because he is always complaining-
that when I'm in the front I get all the fish, which is the truth.
But, now he's in the stern of the boat and fishing them first so.
We'll see what kind of excuse he has.
All the pressure is on me right now.
Actually, that fish took straight out.
You wanna be in the front casting against the shore?
Then I can be in the back casting further out.
This feels kind of stupid.
But I'm not driving the boat.
No, no, I am.
Okay, so you're fishing the small ones.
Was it size or number?
It's up to you.
If you're fishing in numbers, that's okay with me.
We can use this as a bait.
Nice release there.
See if we can get a big one now.
So, you fished a Rainbow Flashabou fly?
Rainbow with some red body on it.
Underwing and silver tail.
I'm gaining on Niklaus.
Now, I'm taking in in numbers and coming up in size.
That's a good one. Should I help you, Sir?
Do you want some help?
Would you, my dear?
Are we even in numbers soon? - No.
Almost.
No, I have lost count. - Have you lost count?
After the first one?
Now we're ready. We hooked every pike in this bay.
We have seen some big ones and caught some big ones.
We're gonna let it rest for awhile and we're gonna go outside-
-where we've seen some really big daddies.
