Hi my name is Brennan and lately on Youtube I've seen a lot of polyglot videos...or not
really polyglot videos but videos where people record themselves speaking other languages
and get help on how they can change their pronunciation or grammar or anything like
that. I thought I would give it a go. So right now I'm speaking my first language: English
which is my mother tongue. The second language that I'm going to start with is Spanish. Spanish
is my second language and it's the language that I learned after English. I started to
study Spanish in High School. This year is my first year in college and I am taking a
third year Spanish class. This year I have had a professor from Columbia and Spain. This
has helped me a lot to hear the differences in the language because in the past my teachers
have been from Mexico or the US. In general in the US we learn Mexican Spanish as far
as the accent in concerned but we learn a more formal Spanish. For me the Spanish that
we learn is a little bit more similar to the Spanish from Spain but we don't have to learn
things like vosotros or vos and things like that. Spanish is the language that I practice
more than the others. There are a lot of native Spanish speakers here in Oregon which is the
state I live in in the US. The majority of them are from Mexico and because of this Mexican
Spanish is a little bit easier for me to understand. In general though, Mexicans speak a little
bit too fast to understand but like the accent is easier to understand. Umm next I'm going
to speak French. French is a beautiful language and I love French. This year is my first year
in college and I'm taking a class called French 103 which is the first year of French there.
There aren't a lot of native French speakers here in Oregon so I don't practice it a lot
with native speakers. So I watch tv shows and series in French like on Netflix. Now
I'm watching Les Anges de la téléréalité the fifth season and they're in the US. I
really like the show, it's funny and amusing but my professor told me that it's a terrible
example of French (the language) and French TV. Also I have a friend who is a French exchange
student from Lyon and she tells me the same thing. But it helps me, it helps me with the
pronunciation and spoken French. I don't really have any other choices to practice French.
Now I'm going to speak Danish. My Danish is bad but I LOVE Danish, it's my favorite language.
I'm a Danish American, I have a Dannebrog there and I have a little Dannebrog on my
car. I love Danmark, Danish culture. My dad's family came from Denmark to the US but they
don't speak Danish now. So I taught myself Danish. That's why my Danish is so bad. But
I taught myself Danish with Danish movies, Danish music and I really love Danish music
and Danish movies like Broen. It's like with...it's with the Øresund Bridge and Denmark and Sweden
and I love it. Oh and Rita pa TV2 I love that one too. Also they have like....Danmark på
prærien and it's a Danish documentary about Danish Americans here in the US. It's kind
of like my family we eat Æbleskiver and pølse and it's not midisterpølse but just regular
pølse and frikadeller. Yeah so we eat those together. Now I'm going to speak Norwegian.
I have a Norwegian-American friend in my Spanish class and we speak together. Like we're in
Spanish class but we speak in...we say "Scandinavian". I try to speak Danish and he understands me
a bit....yeah so we talk together. I speak more "Norwegian" I say like Danish words but
in what I think is a "Norwegian" accent and he understands me when I talk like that. But
yeah I love Norwegian too, I love the Scandinavian languages. Yeah...but we talk like that. I
don't really speak Swedish, my Swedish is kind of
the same as my Norwegian. So I don't really speak Swedish but I love Swedish. There was
a Swedish show...I don't know it (right now) but it was in Skåne and I love Skåne it's
like Denmark but in Sweden and it was really good. So I speak English (my mother tongue),
Spanish my second language, I spoke French, it was horrible but I spoke and after that
I spoke Danish, my bad American Danish and I spoke Norwegian, it wasn't really Norwegian
but Danish in a "Norwegian" accent and also Swedish but it wasn't really Swedish Swedish.
