So here we are in Mar Eliyas monastery. It's place where Elijah, prophet was born.
Right next to this place we have old byzantine churches.
This is the view from here
and we are going to monastery.
Here we have one church which is old 1400 years.
We see here some stones and some ruins,
this is the entrance of church,
the people were standing here,
this is the window and, like outside of the church
and this is the altar
and this is sacred place.
So this is the entrance of the church, the altar and the stairs.
So that church was under this tree,
because we are in hill.
This is the well, inside is water and this is another church.
Right? How old it is?
This church? Aaaa, those are graves?!
Here they were putting grapes to make wine. (He is speaking Arabic)
Here are graves?
Here they were putting grapes. -This are graves?
No, no, they were putting grapes. -Grapes? -Grapes.
Aaa, for wine? -They would squeeze it, yes.
Alkohol, aaa, aaa, they put grapes here and they made wine.
This is how it looks like,
here we have a hole and here is some tunnel...
I don't know.
-Here you see mosaic. -Aaaa, mosaic...
Mosaics. -Mosaics, yes...
How old is this? -From 600. AD
600. AD? -600.
This is the altar.
Or this was the altar, I don't know.
Oh, that was the altar.
So this church is made 600. AD.
Not a thousand, just 600? -600, yes.
This is site for baptism, here until last year they bring babies and they baptize them.
So this is church with mosaic what we saw
and down we saw the baptism site where the people bring their children
and now here we have the part also from the church, this was one very big church and mosaic also here...
and this was all one big church.
And here the tombs of the dead
And this is also tombs, oh my God...
We saw first church here and this is the stairs and entrance in second church
where we have mosaic
and here is another part of the church,
it's big byzantine church, made 600. AD
and here is part for baptism where until last year they baptized children.
So this is the first church, it's built 400. AD,
this church that we saw with mosaic its built in 600. AD
and here we see pillars and rocks that they found in church.
And here is the cross.
See, cross in triangle.
All of those stones are made handmade.
We see that both of the churches are facing to the east,
so there is east and the churches face to east
and people, the Christians at that time were also praying to east.
In west we see Promised land,
behind this hill.
This place doesn't have the tourists a lot,
but its very nice to visit and I think tourists should came to visit this place.
These churches are byzantine, it's 400. AD and 600. AD.
and this is the place where Eliyah is born, so I think tourists should came and visit this.
So this is Mar Eliyas,
I went on this road from Ajloun
and I went like this and at the top of this mountain are those two churches.
I think if you are visiting Jordan you SHOULD visit this, there is not much visitors,
but you should really, this is the biggest byzantine church found in Jordan,
so it's worth, it's really, really worth and it's very beautiful.
Did you visited Mar Eliyas? Well I did and I can tell you that it was very hard to hitchhike there
because the road is going like...very long time in direction where there is no more cities or villages,
so people aren't going there and I had to wait like a whole lot to take a ride.
And it was the same problem when I was hitchhiking from there to go back into the civilization.
Anyway it was worth of visiting, so....
This would be my next video and
this would be the video that YouTube recommends for you to watch,
so stay tuned and see you in my next video, bye.
