Hi, welcome to CosmoGIRL!
Hi, I'm very happy to be here today!
All right, let's get started. First of all, there have been so many rumors about your
age. Can you help us clear them up?
*laughs* Of course. Well, it depends on what theory you believe in, but most scientists agree
that I'm 4.3 billion years old.
Wow! But you look so great! What's your secret??
I'm flattered. It's simple. I'm made of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. I also
have this beauty routine called the hydrologic cycle. It's a lifestyle.
Hydrologic cycle? What's that? Can you walk us through it?
Of course! The hydrologic cycle has taken me so many places. I've been all over the
world and it never gets old! Let me start from about a week ago.
Okay, I'm listening.
So one day, I woke up in a puddle.
A puddle! That's interesting. How did you get there?
Funny story. I'm glad you asked. Me and my other H2O buddies were just chilling in the
park. We wanted to infiltrate the soil but the pores were all taken up already by some
selfish outsiders.
That's rough. I hate when that happens.
Yeah. Well what ended up happening was, we slid down the slope. It wasn't so bad. It's
called runoff.
So you ranoff?
I guess you could say that.
That sounds so fab! What next?
It was pretty chill, except then I started to feel really hot and light headed. It got
really bright and I could feel the power of the sun; it was almost unbearable...
Oh, gosh. What did you do?
At first I was confused but then I realized I was just evaporating. Which is totally awesome
cause that's my favorite part!
Evaporating? What's that?
Well, it got so hot in the puddle that I went through a phase change, from liquid to gas.
Totally awesome!
Totally! I rose up in the atmosphere and finally cooled off a little. When I cooled off I condensed
back into a liquid. That's called condensation.
How did you stay up there?
I was clinging to an aerosol and got together with some of my buddies to form a cloud together.
Party!
Wow, now that's my idea of a party!
I'll invite you to the next one. BYOB.
So rad! So, how was the party?
Well, the cloud was a total buzzkill. It started complaining that we were getting "too heavy"
and DROPPED US.
No way! That's like so uncool!
I know, right? It happens so often they have a technical term for it: precipitation.
What a drag.
Well, it wasn't so bad. See, as the party got too packed, a bunch of other water droplets
clung to my aerosol, and the cloud couldn't handle the load of us anymore. But when we
fell back to the Earth it was awesome!
Wow! Wasn't it exhilarating to be free falling from the sky?
It totally was!
We're starting to run out of time. What happened next?
Well, I infiltrated the ground and became part of an aquifer. Then your water company
pumped me out from the ground and sent me to your place- now I'm in your water glass!
That sounds so exciting. We're out of time.
It was a pleasure being here. I guess I'll meet you in the bathroom?
