hate this is pretty interesting in the wake up some marijuana legalization
discussions an actual legalization in Colorado
there's been a study done by the Wall Street Journal which reveals that
marijuana legalization makes police
a lot poorer we did a story a while ago about a Florida police department that
was alluring in drug dealers from all over the country
actually from all over the world and they were seizing tons of cash
assets cars all sorts of stuff and really getting rich and funding a lot of
their operations
ru their implementation of the drug war and
the article in the Wall Street Journal discusses how a task force in
washington's
Snohomish County has historically been funded in great part by the cash
the car is the other houses in assets that are seized
by the a fighting the so-called fighting of the war on drugs
this is just totally obvious to me we have a situation here
where police departments are funded Police Department often have funding
issues
and in spite of that much of their funding does come from seizing
what drug war-related assets now I actually think
this is obviously not good but police departments need to have a longer term
view this if you look at this at the macro-level
not individual police departments but macro the
legalization of marijuana will number one
3 up a lotta resources to focus on other types of crime which understandably
aren't quite as profitable because you're not able to seize assets when you
go after
non-drug type criminal charges up but also it's going to completely change
the it's going also free up money right Louis if we look at
nationally at the amount of money pouring into the drug war and separated
from individual Police Department losing money
it is super fiscally conservative to stop this persecution have nonviolent
drug offenders
right that the people that are going to lose money are perhaps individual
police outfits prisons I am
and who knows maybe some politicians David but overall of course the would-be
massive what would be safe billions ma'am I don't know the exact numbers but
it would just be absolutely huge
