Engineering students at Seoul National University are lending a helping hand to small- and medium-sized
enterprises that are facing technical challenges. A consulting center staffed by the university's
best team of engineers has opened its doors to provide customized technical consulting
services. Our Sohn Jung-in tells us why. Inside this
laboratory at the College of Engineering at Seoul National University, research students
are busy working on a better design for semiconductors. They are visited by the CEO of a mid-sized
manufacturing company, who's asking for advice.
"I came here to get some help from the university researchers who are developing the latest
technologies related to our products."
After some discussion, the CEO comes to the conclusion that the technology the team is
working on could be of actual help to his company.
"When SMEs are designing new products, we can pass on our design techniques or share
our ideas to help them optimize their resources."
The team of engineers is ready to help the SMEs resolve the technical challenges they
face,... and provides customized services to help them get there,... so the SMEs can
strengthen their foundation and boost their competitiveness in overseas markets.
"We provide technical consultation, as well as training courses that specialize in the
areas they need."
Now that the engineering consulting center has gotten off the ground, the university
plans to have other departments launch similar programs for businesses in the future.
