SPEAKER: If you've got a '99 or 2000 lightning,
replacing the fog lights is extremely easy.
Or if you've done like us and upgraded the headlights
to the '01 to '04 style, you probably want to update
your fog lights to the ultra clear style to match.
We're going to show you just how easy it is remove them.
However, there is a little bit of wiring involved
because the factory connector on the lightning
is a little different than the aftermarket connector
on these fog lights, because these fog lights are actually
intended for a Mustang.
Physically, exactly the same.
Just has a little bit different connector on it.
We'll show you how to swap those out as well.
Now pulling out your original light is very easy.
All you're going to need is a 14 millimeter socket
on a 3/8 ratchet.
Crawl underneath, unplug the electrical connector.
Use your ratchet and socket to remove the retaining nut.
Then, go ahead and slide the fog lights out
from the front of the bumper cover.
Now here's the difference in electrical connectors
that I was telling you about earlier.
What we're going to do is go ahead and cut the sleeve
on the factory fog light, trim the wires
at an alternating length, and then do
the same thing on the new fog light connector.
You can use butt connectors to put these back together,
but here, I'm going to solder.
Now that you've got everything cut to length,
grab your fog light, the new fog light
and your factory connector.
Cut you a few small pieces of heat shrink tubing.
Slide it onto the fog light wires.
Twist your two pieces of connections together.
Solder both connections.
Then slide your heat shrink up.
Shrink it down into place.
Grab you some 3M Super 33 plus, or equivalent quality
electrical tape.
Throw you a few wraps around the soldered joints,
and completely wrap the wires all the way up to the fog light
itself to prevent abrasion of the wires in the vehicle.
Now that we've got everything soldered back together,
we're going to go ahead and stick the electrical connection
through the square hole in the bumper cover,
and then line up the threaded stud with the oval hole right
beneath it, slide the light into the place,
tighten the attaching nut, reconnect
the electrical connection, and test for operation.
All right.
Now that's a great improvement for not a whole lot of time,
and definitely not a lot of money.
The fog lights now perfectly match the headlights.
Now the same process will apply even if you're just
replacing your factory '99 fog lights.
