ARDEN MYRIN: What's up, Spaces.
It's Arden Myrin.
I am on Malcolm X Boulevard in Harlem in New York City.
This neighborhood has changed a lot in the last few years,
and I want to see what is going on today.
I want to see if somebody in Harlem will take me home.
Hi.
Will you take me home?
He just laughed in my face.
Will you take me home?
Clearly, they don't know what they're
missing here in Harlem.
What's your name?
SARAH: Sarah.
ARDEN MYRIN: Hi, Sarah.
RYAN: I'm Ryan.
ARDEN MYRIN: Hi, Ryan.
I'm Arden.
It's nice to meet you.
SARAH: Nice to meet you.
ARDEN MYRIN: Hi.
Where do you guys live?
RYAN: Here.
ARDEN MYRIN: Would you take me home with you?
RYAN: She'll kill me.
She'll kill me.
ARDEN MYRIN: Well, they were lovely. he laughed in my face,
but they were polite until that moment in time.
OK.
Here comes an incredibly hunky gentleman.
Hello.
Hi.
My name's Arden Myrin.
ABDI: Hi.
ARDEN MYRIN: What's your name?
ABDI: Abdi.
ARDEN MYRIN: Abdi?
And who's this?
ABDI: This is my daughter Fiora.
ARDEN MYRIN: I mean this in a respectful way, but like this
is an incredibly good gene pool happening here.
Do you live in the neighborhood?
ABDI: Yes, actually, I do.
ARDEN MYRIN: OK.
Um, this might be a crazy question.
Would you be willing to take a harmless blonde girl home and
show me your apartment?
ABDI: Uh, sure.
ARDEN MYRIN: Are you kidding?
Yes.
OK.
Before you can think about twice.
OK, great.
Then let's--
I'm gonna--
We're gonna go home.
OK, now don't tell me about the apartment.
I'm gonna guess before we get there.
I actually feel like I'm going to see a lot of books.
Well organized.
ABDI: [LAUGHS]
ARDEN MYRIN: I feel like it's gonna be--
I'm gonna say, a lot of love in the house.
Like this feels like a nice family vibe.
Grown-up, but with a nice welcoming thing, with a little
bit of kids' stuff.
ABDI: Exactly.
ARDEN MYRIN: OK.
Oh my god.
ABDI: Exactly.
ARDEN MYRIN: That was my guess.
Thank you so much.
ABDI: Sure.
Come right in.
ARDEN MYRIN: Oh my god.
This is legitimately the nicest apartment.
This is amazing.
ABDI: Thank you.
ARDEN MYRIN: This is--
OK, six bar stools?
This is not a New York City apartment.
Oh my god.
This is huge!
Full kitchen, bar stools.
I love the dining area.
This is fantastic.
Seating for four, fantas--
I love your double pool, with like the jacuzzi and the
cool-off pool.
I have to say, for a place with kids' stuff, it's not
super cluttered.
ABDI: Yeah.
Um, maybe it's not so bad, but it's a little bit cluttered.
[BOTH LAUGH]
ABDI: Not the way it used to be, at least.
ARDEN MYRIN: And look at this view.
ABDI: Three blocks away is the famous Sylvia's, of course.
ARDEN MYRIN: Awesome.
And just even just standing out there, just talking to me,
everyone was so cool and nice, you know.
It just seems like a nice sort of a neighborhood vibe.
ABDI: Definitely.
It definitely has that.
ARDEN MYRIN: Here we go.
Oh my god, this is awesome.
This is amazing.
Is this your room, my queen?
ABDI: Yeah.
ARDEN MYRIN: Is this your room?
Will you show me your room?
She's outta here.
She's like, you know what, lady?
ABDI: She just like, bye-bye.
ARDEN MYRIN: I didn't agree to take you home.
So you've got her little crib over here.
ABDI: So I've got her little crib here, basically, and then
a rocking chair.
ARDEN MYRIN: This is so smart.
Getting a bed with storage underneath is super key.
ABDI: It really does.
Definitely, yeah.
ARDEN MYRIN: This is what would make me have a baby.
Right here.
It's just the tiny footwear.
Adorable.
ABDI: Yes.
Well, this is a little office, here.
ARDEN MYRIN: OK, you say that casually, like most apartments
in New York have a home office.
This is the size of a lot of people's apartments.
This is amazing.
Harlem's so much better than the Upper East Side.
ABDI: It is, yeah.
ARDEN MYRIN: So many ways.
Oh my god, are you kidding me?
OK.
First of all, room for three dressers?
Three dressers.
This is the biggest--
a full bike.
ABDI: Full bike, yeah.
ARDEN MYRIN: I've never even seen that.
ABDI: It's a regular bike, and we hooked on a Kinetic.
So it becomes an exercise bike.
ARDEN MYRIN: So this is the gym, right?
ABDI: Pretty much.
A gym, exactly.
ARDEN MYRIN: So is there anything that you haven't done
to your place yet, that you want to do?
ABDI: Definitely just paint.
ARDEN MYRIN: What color would you like to paint it?
ABDI: I'm fine with this, but I think my wife wants another
color, maybe.
Something--
something warm.
ARDEN MYRIN: Slate grey-- well, it's not warm, but would
be very chic.
A little boutique hotel-y.
ABDI: Exactly.
ARDEN MYRIN: Mm-hm.
This feels kind of like a penthouse.
I know you're not on the top floor, but in my mind, I'm in
a penthouse apartment.
I feel like I saw a balcony.
Is that true?
ABDI: Actually, we do, yes.
ARDEN MYRIN: Oh, Romeo, Romeo.
Come on!
Look at that balcony.
ABDI: I know, right.
ARDEN MYRIN: Whoa, somebody's created an entire, like,
magical kingdom there.
ABDI: Yeah.
ARDEN MYRIN: Oh my god.
Hi, buddy.
ABDI: Yeah, this is Fiora's favorite part
of the house, actually.
ARDEN MYRIN: Is it?
Hi, Fiora.
ABDI: Slowly.
There you go.
There you go.
ARDEN MYRIN: Oh my god, She's chill out on a roof.
All right.
Now I noticed that your wine rack was empty, and I wouldn't
be a very good house guest if I didn't come with a
housewarming present.
So--
ABDI: Oh, wow.
ARDEN MYRIN: I wanted to bring you-- it's my own label.
It's my own vintage of wine.
I've got my own vineyards.
ABDI: That is so--
ARDEN MYRIN: Not for you.
I have to check your ID.
Thank you much for taking me home.
I love Harlem.
I love your apartment.
It was so nice to meet you.
What a great neighborhood, beautiful place.
Thank you.
ABDI: You're welcome, definitely.
Nice meeting you as well.
ARDEN MYRIN: Give it up for Abdi and Fiora.
Bye.
Abdi was brave enough to take me home.
