The sun is shining more brightly on
energy and dollar savings for the
average homeowner.
More people and businesses are
beginning to accept the Ontario
government's offer of subsidies through
alternative energy production.
The province's feed-in-tariff or FIT
program is an incentive to reduce
their demand on the electrical grid.
Installing solar panels is a key means
of saving energy and money over time.
And mechanical engineering technologies Professor
Leo Salemi and students are working
on ways to help, with super efficient solar technology.
Leo Salemi: We investigate
sustainable energy solutions for the
home, okay, so that's basically what we were
set out to do and it took us two weeks to figure
that out, okay, and the answer is yes. These
are practical solutions with all of
the incentives being offered right now it's
a no brainer. You just put these into your
house and you'll reduce your carbon foot print
and everybody's gonna be happy after that.
And you'll make money at it too, so
that's our goal, to learn about this technology.
In the process, the team is building a
roster of sustainable energy projects
and industry partners through their
new virtual and physical lab space on
George Brown's Casa Loma campus.
Leo Salemi: My goal is to get students
involved and work on something that they'll be
able to use later on in their careers and
also involve new technologies.
