My background was academia,
civil society, research. I was well acquainted
with the local dynamics. I know the people,
I know the situation and I know many of the root causes
of the local conflicts. Contextualizing
your approach
is a very, very important aspect. It helps,
the skills that we learn at the academic level,
but the reality is, what's very important is for one
to understand, to know the local context, local dynamics
the traditions, the cultures. So you have the clan, the religion,
you have the neighbor, you have the International. There's a lot of different
groups
with different agendas and different schools of thought and all of this.
So building a political process
that accommodates all these different frames
is the essence of post-conflict
leadership.
