1000ps Live from the exhibition Motorrad Linz 2014. Now, I have no idea where I am, what this is, or who you are .
Can you enlighten me please .
My name is Martin Reingruber by the company Hammerschmid Maschinenbau.
We are a small , young company in Upper Austria in Bad Leonfelden
and have developed this electric motorcycle, the Johammer.
This is our first time at an exhibition, as we will begin in March with the sale of these motorcycles.
The design reminds me of steampunk , retro- futurism. What is under this unconventional
shell ?
In essence, the body has to protect the technique inside.
If you lift the body, you can see the entire interior , ie , the large battery pack , power electronics ,
the motor and all the mechanical parts. This is actually the function that you find behind it.
And how come the other parts? Some parts remind me of Honda parts.
Did you simply collected together ?
The bike is a completely new development in principle.
Our core competence is engeneering special purpose machinery ,
which means we usually get from our customers a task, we then have to solve.
As we have decided to develop the electric motorcycle,
there was the core tasks: How would we, without copying other concepts,
build a motorcycle focusing on lightweight and electric mobility.
The only thing that was given are the two wheels.
The only purchased parts are the tires, brake discs and control parts.
The mirrors are again developed in-house by us. We have not oriented to other motorcycle manufacturers.
Behind the steering wheel hub is a steering that has something to do with the frame structure.
Behind this cover is not the typical frame conceals the known from the motorcycle,
but the entire technology is based on a narrow hollow body frame.
There inside the suspension and damping elements are mounted.
A great inovation , from our point of view , is the long range
you can achieve with the built-in battery pack. Basically, there are three variants and thus ranges.
At least 100km, at least 150km and at least 200km .
I emphasize the least because many manufacturers inscribe in the catalog 100km range,
but then riding quickly, the fun is soon over after 70km .
That is a no-go for us. Our given ranges are the lower limits.
Our given ranges are the lower limits.
- Which we can show proudly.
During our trips in 2013 , where we have tested the pre-production models,
we were able to traverse Austria in one day with one stop for charging. This is a great story.
Yes great. - What's next up for the project? Sale, distribution , price ?
As I said, we have first to learn to build the Johammer . This is not comparable to other motorcycles.
That means we can not provide Johammers to conventional motorcycle dealers who showcase them.
The sale, which starts in March , will start from the factory.
We got some very interested people who accompany us for years already.
Some of them may represent partners and distributors for us in the medium term.
In the first year we want to sell between 30 and 50 pieces of these motorcycles.
Yet we can not say how this looks like in a year or two.
- We have some ideas.
What about test ride for 1000ps?
Of course you are invited to visit us in Bad Leonfelden.
As soon as the weather permits we can do a longer trip.
As of March or April, we offer beautiful day tours,
where one rides around 200km through the beautiful Upper Austria.
This will convince you of the performance of the bike.
Then I wish you good luck for the future. Thanks for the interview .
Thank you.
