Hi! ...are you sure you want to do this? You sure? You promise? Okay!
Make-up is...complicated. On the one hand it's really
exciting to explore all these different guises and really express yourself
with makeup but at the same time, it takes a certain degree of skill to do make-up
and..
we're very impressionable creatures will look at magazines, at TV and pretty
much anything we can feast our eyes on and we'll try to mimic what we're seeing
And the result is those horrible awkward teenage phases where our make-up is just AWFUL!
Once you wear make-up,
your perception completely changes. It's definitely a new way of thinking you
see things in yourself and others that you didn't see before and that to me is just...
..it's just weird and it's not something you can get rid of easily, so I'm just telling you to
just be aware of that.
Try not to be too wrapped up in it, I know it's really hard. (laughs)
Ready-Kassie and Not-Ready-Kassie are two
different things in my eyes and it's something I really notice and I take note of it
when I look at other people too. If I notice a girl's make-up is
really nice, I'll be like "sweet, that's awesome maybe I can try it too!"
There's my impressionable side coming back out again.
If someone's not wearing any make-up at all, I'll notice.
And it's a really weird way to perceive things. It's kind of like the first time I got my nails done.
I never cared about people's cuticles before I got my nails done.
And then I got my nails done and I was
often checking out other people's nails and that's why I envy
people who haven't worn make-up yet.
You're not worried about it! Being worried about your appearance is such a PLAGUE.
Five-year-old me is
a very different person than seventeen-year-old me.
That's not to say that one is better than the other, but one was a lot more
carefree than the other. I'm not just gonna make fun of make-up because I love make-up!
It's a creative outlet. It's
growing pains, I guess. Learning new things kinda sucks in some ways, but it's
really great in other ways and it's cool that I can be sick or
tired and I can cover it no matter what.
I had ridiculously bad acne in high school and I covered it
pretty well. I mean, if it gets really bumpy then you can't really do much about it.
It's really cool how you can
just have this uniform, trademark face no matter what
I really like that about make-up. Have fun with it!
So I'm starting off with my Birthday-Face. And the most important part is the very
first step. I'm going to push my eyebrows up with a comb (a regular comb,
I don't have any special eyebrow comb. and I'm sure you don't either if you're just beginning.)
And I'm just pushing the hairs up and trimming them.
The reason why I do this is because it actually makes my eyebrows look thicker
despite the fact that I'm cutting hair off, because they lift easier with this brow gel.
And this is the most important part of a makeup routine because I credit my
entire look to my eyebrows so it's something I take pretty seriously.
And I wish I knew when I was younger, because eyebrows really are everything in my
opinion. So, I push them up, I shaped them and I'm gonna fill them in quite heavily
compared to what they look like with nothing on them.
and just accentuate the arch just a little bit.
And then I'm going to take a very creamy concealer and put it under my eyes. You want a
creamy concealer just because
you're gonna regret tugging on that area when you're older. And most girls use their
ring finger because the gentlest, but I use my middle finger because I prefer using
a finger I have a lot more control over.
I'm very very gentle with me face, it's a really good thing!
And I'm also gonna put it around my nose as well. Just anywhere where it's red.
My nose
seems to be the only place that's red right now.
This is a really really natural make-up look, because natural is better
especially if you're just starting out and you're in a classroom and you're under fluorescent lights
which bring out all of your flaws.
The more make-up you put on in the bathroom, even though it might look cool, the worse you're going to look
under fluorescent light. So I'm just going to apply everything very lightly
I'm using a tinted moisturizer right now that matches my skin perfectly, which is always
nice. It's going to take a lot of trial and error for you to find a colour that matches
yourself perfectly.
My skin is quite neutral. Not much warmth in there, so the Peach Bisque by 100% Pure
is very good for me. So I'm just putting it all around. It's really cool wearing something
that matches you perfectly, because if you miss a spot, it's not a big deal!
And for blush/bronzer, I'm just gonna use one colour and it's a brownish red
colour and it's just gonna double as a blush as well. I really don't like seeing young
girls and you can obviously tell they're wearing blush. So this is a more natural
look.
And you get that colour that you want as well as contour.
But it's not too heavy of a contour, which is nice.
And now I'm putting on some powder. Very very light dusting, again fluorescent
lights bring out all the powder, so just put it on very lightly. I'm usually doing one sweep
over each part, except for my under eyes. And I'm putting some white on.
You want to highlight your brow bone and highlight the
inner corner of your eyes because this is an old trick that just make you
look exponentially brighter in the face.
I'm using the same colour I used on my eyebrows in my eye socket to kind of darken that
area and add a little dimension.
And I'm using my finger, because this is what I did all through high-school and you probably
don't have any new brushes, so...
it works!
And then I'm gonna take a lipstick and apply it with my finger. This is actually usually
what I do, because I prefer a stain rather than a full on lip colour if I want to look natural.
I kind of just pat it on and it really looks like I'm not wearing any
lipstick at all. And I'm using mascara now. I'm using one that kind of
lengthens and thickens
my lashes. When the rest of the make-up is light, you can really get away with
putting on a lot of mascara, which is what I like to do. Especially with this one
because it doesn't get clumpy at all. This one is the dramatic eye mascara,
by Dr. Hauschka's. I'm a little more, uhm, I guess blessed in the eyelash compartment.
...Department! (laughs)
So that's fortunate for me. If you don't have long eyelashes, then all you really need is
an eyelash curler, because actually one of my best friends has way
shorter lashes than me, but they curl out really really nicely naturally and she
always gets tons of compliments on her lashes. So this is the final look! And I hope
you like it! Let me know if you have any other questions or requests and
I will talk to you in my next video! Bye!
[sped up mouse voice] I'll be like "sweet, that's awesome maybe I can try it too!" There's my impressionable side coming out again.
