My sort of business I'm in is a caretaking business.
It consists of cleaning offices, looking after Alex Fraser Personnel
Security, and plenty of other things.
Our work consists of very strange hours sometimes we start about 2am in the morning
and finish about 12pm in the day time.
It's a very long day for the workers but they seem to handle it pretty good.
I'm not really fussy when it comes to employing workers
As long as they are very polite and they dress neatly.
I find working with Matchworks and their consultant pretty easy
because every time I need a person, they're really quick to get someone
Most of the time, it's one interview and I'll find that they're extremely
yeah, polite—most of the people and I haven't had any problem with them at
all I don't dismiss people just because
they can't speak English or they've they're refugees or they've had troubles
in the past with crime I think everyone deserves a second chance.
When I first started the business, I couldn't get anyone.
I first tried to put ads in the paper
I would get no reply
Since I started working with Gavin I've really had no stress
like I had before, when I would think about the next day
or the next week, having workers, now with Gavin, there's no stress at all
I'll ring up and he'll have five people, then and there.
David was one of my first employees, he faced a lot of issues when he started working
for me, from his language barrier to,
to him just being full on when it comes to security work
and caretaking work
But sending John my leading hand with him and spending a lot of time with him
sitting down and teaching him, teaching him the routines
and the OH&S problems, we seem to have gotten through all of those issues and
David seems to be doing it easy now.
