Now we are going to start creating a map together for what a new economy could look like in America. Our current hyper capitalist economy is grounded in values of greed and selfishness. The one-percent economy isn’t just reducing our standard of living, taking our homes, wrecking our retirement savings and polluting the environment. As devastating as those things are, it's also an attack on some of our most deeply-held values. So, what values would create an economy that would work for all of us? Take some time now to think about your family story and the story of The 99% that you heard. Many, many issues were alive in those stories but what were the values behind them? For example, if an issue they came up for you is housing maybe the value that springs from that is justice, or security. Maybe if your issue was senior care, the value behind that, is it equality, or courage, or love? Take a minute to write down your values and the values you've seen in the stories of The 99%.
