What advice would you give to someone you knew was driving down a dead end street or
a road where the bridge was out ahead and they didn’t see the signs?
What would you do if they said, “thanks for your concern, but do you know how long
I planned this trip, do you know how much money I’ve spent or have any idea how long
I’ve been driving?’
Can you imagine telling someone the bridge is out and having them look at you and say
that they’ve been on this route a hundred times and made it to the other side every
time and that they saw the bridge recently and it looked just fine... and then proceeded
down the same old road.
When I talk to people about new marketing options offered by social media marketing,
online marketing, video marketing, email marketing and text message marketing, I feel the same
way when they tell me yeah... but... and then go on to tell me about how successful the
old ways of doing things have been in the past even though they’re not working so
well now.
Some people are hard to help. I want to encourage you to not become one of them. Pay attention
to the signs around you. They are not always as obvious as road signs you pass by every
day, sometimes they ARE and seem impossible to miss, unless you aren’t paying attention.
Are fewer people calling your business or buying your products and services? Are you
spending more money on marketing and getting worse results? Are you attracting fewer of
your ideal prospects? Are your salespeople working harder but delivering more excuses
than sales? If so, these are signs and choosing to ignore them puts you and your business
in great peril. Slow down, stop, and change direction.
Jumping your car over the river, when the bridge is out only happens in the movies.
In real life... in business... not so much.
