The caterpillars are little babies and they eat and eat and eat a bunch of leaves and
then they attach themselves to a branch and become a cocoon and after several days-about
five days-it starts wiggling and you can see the cocoon moving and that little thing in
there breaks out and becomes a beautiful butterfly.
Well 4H has probably given back ten-fold of what I’ve put into it.
It really makes an impact on the 4H member’s life.
My leader just taught me how to be a great leader.
Hey this is fun I get to help other people learn how to do stuff that I love to do.
Get online, you know, Google 4H for your county and get involved. You will not regret it.
Our 4H club leaders are awesome. It is so needed to have adults that you can
go to for positive reinforcement, to have adults that can be role models and mentors.
It just seems interesting, they needed other volunteers and I was doing parenting with
some of the other kids, and I thought it would be a good opportunity to give back to the
community. Take your interests and hobbies and put them
to good use. Take the student that’s on the street sitting there getting into trouble,
take that trouble and turn it into something productive.
It made me the person I am today and I want to give back to my 4Hers what I took out of
it from my wonderful leaders that I had whom I’m now being mentored by to become the
next generation of leaders. 4H clubs in the community offer another opportunity
for young people to be involved in some structured type activities outside of the school system
beyond the inner mural, beyond the sports. I recommend volunteering all the time, I volunteer
for several organizations and I think that it’s important for kids for their future
to have people around them that can show them leadership and character. It’s just a great
thing. It’s something to do beyond going to the mall and thinking of yourself.
I have a good time there because they’re keeping me young.
Well coming out of the 4H program I know there’s a need for leaders in the areas that I enjoy
in my personal life so I enjoy sharing those hobbies, sharing my experiences, and shaping
the youth in the way that I’ve been shaped from this program.
I think you should be involved in 4H. Just dive in, don’t hold back, just dive in and
give up yourself. Through 4H too, just growth as an individual,
tremendous training opportunities that extension 4H provides for their club leaders has helped
me grow without a doubt. Whatever skills you have, you can come and
teach and share and learn some new skills yourself.
A lot of things that people can do to volunteer, but they might feel like ohhh I have to do
all this planning and I have to do all this time commitment and yeah there’s a time
commitment certainly but it isn’t at all overwhelming or anything like that, it’s
really actually quite easy to do. If you like being with kids and helping them, it’s really
quite simple. You don’t really need a specific set of
skills other than a willingness and ability and interest in children and working with
children and seeing them grow and succeed. Beyond that the program really backstops volunteers
quite well with all the training that’s available. If you have a problem, you’re
an email or phone call away. It’s not going to take 10 hours a week.
It may take just a couple hours a month. It’s extremely easy, just go to your MSU extension
and they can tell you exactly how to become a volunteer.
It only takes on leader and five kids to make to make a club and it could be your own children,
your children and the children next door. It could be your classroom and 4H is out there
waiting to help. I would really encourage them to give their
own talents and to really let them know how much the young people involved in 4H look
to them for guidance and how much they really value the opinions and the direction that
the leaders provide. I think there’s always probably a need for
good positive influence for children and youth and specifically in 4H those children that
are in the clubs need to have people that can be good role models for them.
We’ve kind of spread ourselves thin so we do need more adult volunteers and role models
to come in and help us out. We’re always looking for 4H club leaders
the need is greater now than ever with the decline in the local community programs that
are available to young people. Without a doubt without volunteers behind the 4H program,
the program just doesn’t happen. I’ll tell people we need help in 4H.
I that it’s really important that you have a good 4H club leader, they’re the ones
that help you out when you really need it and they’re always there for you, they’re
definitely someone you can always count on. They’re the ones that are equipping the
members to become the leaders. They’re preparing us to become the leaders of tomorrow. They’re
going to teach you what they know so you can do the best that you can so having a good
club leader is one of the most essential parts of the club.
I think I would definitely want to be a 4H leader when I grow up. I want to be one of
those people that really helps impact someone else.
If you’re goofing around she says, “Hey you just need to settle down” instead of
yelling at us. She doesn’t go ahhhhhhh. I still like helping out, it’s just the
sense of doing something instead of just enjoying, I’m actually enjoying myself and doing something
else. I’m helping people while I’m doing it.
There’s a little girl at our school, Linda Maria, when she helped us let loose the butterflies
she was so cute and I liked helping her and it felt good her telling me thank you.
