I love working with oil paints and I need to use paint thinner when I do so. But pouring
paint thinner into a cups can be kind of a nuisance. Today I'll be showing you an eco-friendly
way to not only store your paint thinner but also recycle it.
To safely store our thinner we're going to need a tall jar with a lid. You can find one
that held pickles or spaghetti sauce; just make sure you clean it out and make sure you
save the top.
Next, you're going to need some metal mesh or metal screening. This is from a screen
door. Now what I'm going to do is I'm going to fold it up and compress it into a ball
and it needs to fit inside this jar.
Just be careful because the edges can be a little bit sharp. I'm just going to push it
down about halfway, just like that, and then I'm going to take my thinner, I'm using turpenoid
and I'm going to fill the jar to a level that is just a little bit over the top of that
screen. This makes the perfect container for cleaning your brushes!
So if I were to be painting right now and I wanted to change colors. I would now just
wipe my brush on the top of the screen, all of the oil paint comes off the brush and the
best part is this system is reusable because when I'm done painting for the day all I have
to do is wait overnight and all of my oil paint will settle to the bottom of the jar
and it's clean, ready to use again.
So it's a great eco-friendly way to reuse your thinner over and over again.
After you're done painting don't forget to put your lid back on your glass jar.
