Oh, Kassy.
Typical teenager in some ways, and not typical in other ways.
Loved shopping, boys, you know,
going out with friends, meeting with friends.
A real fun-loving person.
Kassy was on her way to a friend's house.
She was on a very busy road, and she looked up in time
to see cars stopped ahead of her, so she tried to swerve
to miss them, and hit into other cars.
Needless to say, she didn't make it.
She made two poor decisions.
She made a decision to not wear a seatbelt
and to text and drive.
I mean, that was one of my first thoughts:
I'll bet she was on her phone.
Because we had talked about it and talked about it
so many times, but she never thought that something
like this would happen to her.
And that she was good enough at texting, and she was fast at it,
so nothing could happen.
It doesn't take that long.
But, that's all it took, was just a couple of seconds, and...
I was just devastated.
There's that empty part of our lives.
Nothing can drown that out.
Every time you go to bed at night, you just replay
that same night over and over again.
I should have done this, you know, you go through that.
You know, should we have, different questions
that run through your mind.
Every night, just play it over and over again.
This is...
this is real.
It can happen to you.
Whether you're a teen, or an adult, it just...
it can happen.
It has, and it will probably happen again,
unfortunately, to another family.
I don't care how good you think you are.
And, uh...
if you think it's a personal choice, it's not.
When you're on a public road, you're involving the public.
It's not just your decision.
You're making it everybody's problem.
And I just thank God that my daughter didn't take any other lives
[Music] Distracted driving kills,
safe driving starts with you.
