To achieve great things, extraordinary people must surround and support you. For instance
through Vanguard, an engineer society composed by student leaders. I held a workshop that
introduced aeronautical careers and UAV simulations for students considering careers in engineering.
This is just one example of how I am developing the skills of a successful University Innovation
Fellow.
I pursued and sought for the establishment of our American Institute of Aeronautics and
Astronautics student organization while I was recovering from near academic dismissal.
I faced opposition, resistance and criticism. Although my listening skills did detect the
negativity that surrounded me, I chose to listen to that lone voice in my mind who encouraged
me not to back down. In the end I was able to establish the organization, and received
a lab technical intern position at our Mechatronics Research facility. I developed relationships
that gave me the opportunity to gain membership to UC Merced's student engineering society
Vanguard. I have been receiving guidance from a current Aeronautical Engineer, faculty members
and campus leaders in the pathways program.
I envision a campus that will foster a competitive pool of students whose goal is to integrate
the central valley's economic, environmental and social needs into their own ambitions,
for them to start to engage in solving real world problems, such advancing rocket and
flight technologies or improving access to technological education for underserved youth.
I would like to have students pass down their knowledge and give back to those who seek
change, and believe in their goals. I want to lay the foundation for programs that will
aspire constant innovation and breed the entrepreneurial spirit. Thank You.
