Andrew is not unique in the fact that he balances many things to be
here at Clark. Not only is he his studies and his family. He has two jobs
and he's in the National Guard, so Andrew is an exceptional student
and he's going to share his story, so Andrew come on up.
I come here in 2005, and in that time I worked a minimum wage.
But one of my my clients, she told me a story about her husband
who worked at a machine shop as a machinist. And then he referred me to Clark College.
After a year I study in Clark College, I see a lot of good things in here.
The first thing is my instructor and my team, who never run out of patience with me
when I ask them a stupid question. [Laughs]
I will ask my instructor. He explains to me, and if I don't understand I'll watch a video.
And after I watch a video if I don't understand, I jump on a machine and do it.
That's the final thing. I do it, and I understand it, and I can do very well on the job.
And the second thing, the equipment in the machine shop work very well.
Last year we brought in two new machines in the machine shop. And then in this year
the whole brand new computer system in the computer lab. It was replaced. Brand new. It's running very fast, very great.
I want to say, all the services - Clark services - I use them all.
I use from advisors to financial office, work source and everything.
If open here, I use, will use it.
After a year of studying here, I gain my job to $17 an hour right now, so
it's been like five years I just gained $2, but after a year of study at Clark College,
I gained $5 in six months.
