Q&A Session
Q: What do you think of Souwer comment about wearing the pants?
Masato: Basically it's against the rules of MAX, so I don't think he's going to.
But still, I don't think it would matter since I'll be hitting his face.
Tanikawa: I want to follow the rules of K-1, be totally in line with them.
Q: He was saying that your upcoming match with him was fated.
Masato: Definitely fate. And it ends with me winning.
K-1 MAX started in 2000, I became the champion in 2003,
and going undefeated through last year's championship was all destined to happen.
That was the story.
And the ending is of me getting revenge on Souwer.
Q: How's this match fated to happen?
Masato: I'm thinking only about winning and ending it.
Q: Souwer got a lot better really fast this year since he's been getting ready for you.
Masato: I've been getting ready for him since the start of the year too.
I don't care if he's coming here to try to beat me. We both are looking for an intense match.
It's all about winning that final match that's the big deal.
Winning that final match. I want it to be a match to be remembered.
Q: Do you think Souwer has an advantage in his slow start with the three-minute five-round rule?
Masato: Not at all. I don't lose to anyone no matter who they are.
I go all out from the first round. From the first round to the fifth round,
even into a sixth round, I'm still going strong.
I think it's a rule that works to my advantage.
Q: What do you think of the Saitama Super Arena, where you were the champion in 2003?
Masato: It's a great place. I don't know much about it,
but it's great place for me to go see a lot of friends,
the elementary and middle school kids from Saitama who go there.
Q: What do you want to show the people who are watching this year's New Year's Eve Dynamite!! on TV for the first time?
Masato: I want to give a match that's easy to follow,
something that even women and older people can understand and enjoy if they watch it.
I think it'll be okay if they just watch it like normal.
Q: Watch it like normal?
Masato: Because it's going to be a really simple match. It's hard to understand MMA, but not MAX because we will win by KO.
Q: How have your preparations for the New Year's Eve match been going?
Masato: The match in July was preparation for the New Year's Eve match,
I've been keeping up my power-up training since April to stay ready.
I've been keeping track of my strength,
and I want to work on my weaknesses and talk to my trainer about getting stronger.
Q: How about an intensive training trip?
Masato: I'm not planning one, but I'll focus on sparring.
And I'll do some running. My trainer said I'm going to be the hardest training yet.
Q: Who'd you practice with?
Masato: Starting next week, I'm getting a boxer,
and if there is anyone who looks like Souwer, I think I'll get those people.
Q: Is there any past fight data that you're not satisfied with?
Masato: I looked at the last four fights. Some things went up,
others went down, so it's those things that went down that I want to make stronger.
Q: Who is the boxer going to be?
Masato: I don't know, but I want to meet someone whose strong
but with kicks that I have trouble with. I'm looking.
Q: Is there an audition?
Masato: Hm, you have to talk to Tanikawa for that information.
