Hello! On behalf of expertvillage.com, my name is Bryan Pemberton from the Reserve at
Spanos Park and today we are talking about the dynamics of the golf swing, we talked
about back swing and now we are actually going to talk about the down swing and what happens
in the down swing. When we get in a position to top, this is what we call the back swing.
On the down swing, a lot of things happen but really what you are going to want to do
is start your golf swing with some motion forward with your body. What this does is
it shifts your body into a position where you've got weight actually moving forward
or toward your target. A lot of times what you will find is that people will actually
start to fall backwards on a down swing and again that is from not actually compensating
for what is moving over him. What that means is that when you actually take a golf club
to the top and you start swinging it down, what is going to happen is your weight is
being pulled in that direction. So the first thing you've got to do is offset that. So
I take the club to the top my first motion is forward with my shifting and that gets
my body in a position to actually compensate for what this club is actually going to pull
back. Again weight and balance is actually a key part of the golf swing and if your balance
is good, you will not have to worry any. We are talking about balance and shifting weight.
When you get to the top here is the back swing and down swing. The very first motion is to
movement forward and you notice that I am not actually twisting my body forward because
really my balance and my weight is still back on this foot and this happens a lot. Again
when you take the club back, feel like you are actually staying in a turn and you are
going to shift weight to actually start this golf swing. On the way down, you are going
to release the golf swing and we will talk about that. If you are having trouble hitting
the golf ball solid, one of the things maybe happening is maybe the club is either late
or one of the things we didn't do on time is we didn't shift our weight. A lot of times
players will try and buy time. In other words they are trying to get a little extra time
to release golf clubs by staying on the back foot. Again if your swing actually ends up
and you are hitting it on your back side or having trouble balancing, one thing that you
want to look at is the top of the swing you didn't shift weight first. So let's shift
weight, release the golf club and your balance will always be on this foot. So if you are
having trouble figuring that out one of the things you can do is go to the top of your
swing, shift weight and take the club and finish on this foot. When you get done with
your golf swing, you should really be able to take all of your weight and put it on your
left side. If you can do that, you shifted weight properly.
